RE: Flooded RV

You might consider renting an actual carpet extractor versus just using a wet-vac (assuming that is all you used.) It will remove much more water.
If you turn on your heat and AC at the same time and you basically have a dehumidifier already.

RE: Changing brake fluid

I also use and like my Mity-Vac. It can also be used for other things like checking vacuum operated components or sucking out and changing your power steering fluid.

RE: Hnda Generator, why do I need the Quiet Inverter model

Inside it's quiet box with a meter it registers 21 DB at half throttle, the quiet box has fan forced ventilation for cooling and exhaust elemination with complete soundproofing, the reading was taken at 10ft. I also have an onan 6.5 in a simular enclosure in a differant coach, that one registers 34DB at 10 ft, with the proper soundproofing and cooling any generator can be quieted down conciderably.
Could you please provide more details about your soundproofing methods. I live literally way out in the middle of nowhere with nothing and nobody around and the ambient noise in the middle of my biggest pasture on a calm day is still around 40dB on my almost $3000 test equipment. The fact that you can achieve 21 dB at half throttle on a Honda is amazing to me. Can you post photos of your Honda or Onan enclosure?

RE: Hnda Generator, why do I need the Quiet Inverter model

Someone actually measured a Champion3500 against a Honda2000 in the Chineese Gen thread
I am the person that tested the Champions against the Hondas as I own both Champions (the 3500 and 1400) and a Honda 2000. I have now also compared with the Honda 3000. I am currently updating the website with the test results and I am hesitant to post the results alone without all the details of the test.
My personal opinion summary is that the Champion generators are quieter than any built-in 3600 RPM generator I have ever heard, but the Hondas are much quieter still. The Champion 3500 is an amazing deal at about $300 and it is quieter than most Honda people are willing to admit. But if you want as quiet as possible you still need a Honda 3000, with the Honda 2000 in second place.
Honestly, if you are an a**hole with your generator, it doesn't matter what unit you are using or how much you spend, you are still an a**hole. The user is more important than the equipment in my opinion.
Don't let anyone tell you that a Champion is as loud as a lawnmower. Anyone that tells you that has never heard a Champion 3500.
Sadly, these generator threads seem to always turn to bitter personal attacks. It's too bad because there is more than one correct answer out there. Good luck in your research.

RE: Tank removal

I have had to remove the tanks on a late 70's trailer and there was nothing to cut. The pipes simply pushed in to a rubber flange thing so I could just unbolt and drop the tank without cutting anything. When I installed the new tanks I used new rubber flange things and just pushed the new tank in. It was really pretty easy.
This is how my tank was http://www.tank-depot.com/product.aspx?id=161 Hopefully yours will be the same. I don't know how a "modern" trailer is. I probably have pictures of the whole tank-change project if your interested.

RE: Rounded Top Hard Shell Truck Camper?

My 67 Travel Queen has the rounded top.

There is another one (Besides Avion) that has the rounded top, but I can't think of it right now. There is one here locally that is from the same era as mine.
The Avions are very cool looking.

RE: Any Harm in Wiring Pump to Inverter DC Cables?

Sounds good. Put your fuse where you step down in wire size, so in this case the inline 15A fuse should be right at the prosine.

RE: Newbie questions Starcraft Pine Mountain Truck Camper

I think it is a nice looking camper.
I wouldn't sweat the 38" between the wheel well thing. The wheel wells are not used to secure the camper in a normal installation. That 5" along either side will give you a nice place to store your fishing poles ;) You could always put some blocks or something in there or build some spacers if it made you feel better.
The camper not being tall enough to clear your cab is actually a pretty common problem even on the big campers and trucks. There are several solutions but most common seems to be setting the camper on some of the ~2" thick pink foam insulation boards from Home Depot. So that is another issue that is easily solved. Actually, those foam boards would be a good thing to wedge between the wheel wells and camper to take up that gap if it concerned you.
I still think your biggest issue will be the truck fitting between the jacks. If you are good there, then I think you are golden.

RE: Raising a 2005 Fleetwood Mallard 280BH

Put the leaf springs above the axle. They make a kit that bolts to existing perch so you can do it without welding on another perch (welding is optional.) We did it to my roommates trailer as she had the same problem as you. Worked great. Kit was bought at a local RV dealer.

RE: CB Radio

I have a CB on all the time and unless we are in a caravan on another channel, it is kept on channel 19. I usually keep the squelch pretty high as to only hear things very close and I don't have many problems.
The ham radio thing in intriguing to me and someday I will probably get more serious about research in to that.

RE: BigFoot looses prime on water pump

I drain my camper dry after each trip, and it always primes itself. When I first turn the pump on after I fill I can tell it is sucking air for the first few seconds, then it grabs the water and is back to normal. Same with the pumps in my friend's rigs. When I winterize, my pump will suck the pink stuff 3 feet up out of the jug without priming. I think something is wrong with your pump.

RE: Check Your Load Center Wiring - *WARNING*

Another thing to look for is the type of panel itself. A close friend had a Federal Pacific Stab-Lock panel in her 1977ish trailer. Those panels are famous for causing fires and not tripping in residential applications, along with the Zinsco and Sylvania panels known as the "Zinsco No-Trip." Unless it is something common it might be worth searching around on the internet to make sure the panel doesn't have known issues. I guess it is more of a problem with the older rigs though.

RE: swivel bracket for a heater?

I have done that exact thing with my Olympian. I will try and find pics.
Basically the heater is mounted to a piece of particle board hinged to the camper wall and there is a little spring-loaded foot that sits on the floor to hold its position.

RE: How old is the Truck Camper?

Travel Queen only made campers for like 2 1/2 years. In all my travels and my years of Travel Queen ownership, I have never seen or heard of one older than 1966 or newer than 1968. That doesn't make it impossible though.
Mine has been painted, windows tinted, lights replaced, etc. so it might look newer from outside. Mine is also a 10.5 foot while the one you posted was an 8 foot. Mine really is extremely similar inside to those in your pictures. I had those same cushions (before I had new ones made,) I have the same wood interior, the same fixtures, the same counter tops, the same color scheme, etc. I guess it is possible, but I would be very surprised if that camper you posted pictures of is older than 1966 or newer than 1968. They are very cool campers though, and they were very high-quality in their day. I wouldn't trade mine for anything. There are a few other Travel Queen owners on this forum, or at least there were a few years ago.

RE: How old is the Truck Camper?

Spott, that camper you posted is a Travel Queen very similar to my 1967 (though mine is in much better-than-new condition, more info in my profile.)
Every time I take my camper out, someone tells me that they used to "have one just like it."

RE: DYNOMAX SUPER TURBO MUFFLER/EXHAUST

The Dynomax Super Turbo is considered the best muffler for people that don't try and use a muffler to impress others. It will significantly outflow the "sexy" mufflers like Flowmaster, Gibson, and Magnaflow but it is still quiet. It is supposed to be just a high-quality truck/performance muffler.
But, I installed them on my truck with true duals and I can't honestly say I noticed a difference other than sound. It is still quiet and sounds good though so I am happy.

RE: Converter/Charger Need Help!

For replacement I recommend a Progressive Dynamics 9200 series, or a 9100 series with an add-on charge wizard. I bought a factory refurbished 9260c on Ebay some years ago in the $120 range and it has been flawless.

I use a round, digital, totally battery (no 120v) First Alert from Wal-Mart and it looks totally 100% identical in every way to the Atwood at the RV dealer except for the label (and the price tag.)
